Delivery times

Engine rebuild 1.8T 20V APX — better than factory

The 1.8T 20V with engine code APX is the cult engine of the VAG group — turbocharged 150 to 225 hp in millions of vehicles. Its weak point: the oil pump and pistons fail under heavy load or with increasing age. MIK Motoren completely rebuilds this engine from the ground up and installs components that surpass the factory version.

MIK upgrades — why this engine lasts longer

With the APX, we know every weak point. The rebuild covers more than just wear parts — it eliminates the design flaws that lead to premature damage in the original.

Upgraded oil pump The biggest weak point of this engine is its oil pump, which does not deliver enough oil pressure from the factory and repeatedly leads to failures. Without sufficient oil pressure, warning messages, rattling noises, and loss of power quickly appear and almost always lead to engine damage. For this reason, we use a specially developed oil pump that increases oil pressure across the entire rev range and protects the engine from wear.
Reinforced pistons When tuned for more power or driven hard, this engine is more prone to piston damage in the ring area. It is not uncommon for oil consumption to reach 0.5L/1000km or more, and compression as well as performance drop noticeably. The increased temperature in the combustion chamber then puts particular stress on the pistons and valves. Modified pistons, improved piston rings, and a specially honed cylinder surface provide the remedy.
High-quality bearing shellsAs part of the overhaul, all components are precisely measured and machined. The bearing clearance between the individual components is adjusted for lifetime and performance, ensuring especially smooth engine operation. Combined with high-quality bearing shells, this engine is also ideally suited for sporty drivers.

What does the APX engine overhaul cost?

The APX engine overhaul starts at €4051 for the partial overhaul without installation. With removal & installation service, it is approx. €8051. The full service including vehicle collection is approx. €9375. Prices excl. VAT.

What are the MIK upgrades for the APX?

With the APX, in addition to all wear parts, we also replace the known weak points of the production engine. This means reinforced components, optimized sealing surfaces, and parts that significantly increase the lifetime beyond new-car standards.

How long does the engine overhaul take?

The overhaul usually takes 5–10 working days from the time the engine arrives at our facility. For engines with severe damage (e.g. engine failure due to lack of oil), it may take a little longer. We will keep you informed throughout the entire processing time.

What warranty do I receive on the overhauled engine?

We provide a 24-month warranty on all MIK replacement engines. The warranty covers material and workmanship defects. Proper installation and the use of the specified engine oils in accordance with our installation instructions are required.
