We grind our valves on a dedicated valve grinding machine. However, they are first shot-blasted with glass beads, cleaned with ultrasound, and polished to ensure that their appearance is comparable to that of a new valve.
If it is necessary to adjust the valve protrusion in the cylinder head, there is the possibility of shortening the affected valve. Otherwise, there is a risk that the hydraulic compensating element (tappet) will no longer be able to compensate for the length expansion and the valve clearance, causing the valve to remain open during combustion. This would result in a loss of engine power, as well as fire damage to the valve and the valve seat.
