In order to identify heat cracks in a cylinder head, it must first undergo a crack test before being overhauled.

The cylinder head is put under pressure and turned over for several minutes in a plunge pool heated to approx. 80°C. It is observed whether bubbles appear at any point and thus indicate a crack.

We can test components up to 100cm long and around 40cm high in our test basin. This crack detection can be used very effectively and reliably, especially in the area of ​​the coolant circuit of engines. If there are hairline cracks in the material of the component and they open under pressure and heat, this process makes them visible.

For example, we check every cylinder head we work on. The risk of overlooking a hidden crack is simply too great.

Repairing cracks is often not worthwhile due to the increased work required. We would be happy to advise you on this topic.
